Carolyn Langley

Visiting Professional Specialist, Department of Management & Organization

Professor Carolyn Langley has taught courses in Management Communication to undergraduates, Management Writing to MBAs and Advanced Writing for Accounting Professionals to MSA students.

Dr. Langley brings years of experience in higher education to the Mendoza College of Business.  She began at Indiana University South Bend, teaching in both the Communication Arts and the Education Departments.  Prof. Langley then taught Public Communication, Mass Media, Interpersonal Communication, and Writing courses for the Communication Department at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana.  During her last two years at Saint Mary’s, Professor Langley created and served as the chair of the school’s Communicative Disorders minor. In addition, she directed the study abroad Ireland Program. 

While at Saint Mary’s, Prof. Langley was honored with the College’s highest award bestowed on a professor, when she received the Maria Pieta award for excellence in teaching.  Saint Mary’s also presented her with the Student Leadership award, given to the faculty member who most demonstrates commitment to preparing students for their roles of leadership and action.

Professor Langley has authored articles addressing communication in popular culture, communication apprehension, and study abroad.  These articles have appeared in Communication and the Law, The Southern Communication Journal, and The Social Science Journal.

As a speech-language pathologist, Prof. Langley has provided speech therapy to children and adults.  She currently offers individual and group workshops for the improvement of dialect and the improvement of overall communication skills.  Her clients include students, faculty, corporate executives, physicians, and those who work in the field of mass media.

Dr. Langley received an Ed.D. in Educational Psychology from Andrews University, an M.S. in Special Education from Indiana University South Bend, and a B.S. in Elementary Education and Speech-Language Pathology from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
