Case Studies

About 20 years ago, faculty of the Eugene D. Fanning Center for Business Communication at Notre Dame began researching and writing case studies in Management Communication. We did so largely because there were so few cases available from other sources that were directly relevant to our teaching. We needed classroom instructional instruments that would help our students explore the issues we thought were important.

Today, the Fanning Center has more than 300 case studies and teaching notes that span a wide range of communication issues, including crisis management, reputation management, customer relations, employee communication, corporate philanthropy, investor relations, media relations, public affairs, and more. Many cases are accompanied by a (B) case that can be used to extend the classroom discussion. All but a few are accompanied by a formal Teaching Note and a PowerPoint slide deck. Fanning Center cases are used in over 20 countries around the world.
